Provide basic emergency life support (HLTAID010)
This course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge in providing first aid and basic life support until the arrival of medical assistance, including, calling for help, assessment of causalities and providing first aid technique and basic life support.

- Understand airway management including guedel
- Understanding the O2 requirement for each oxygen delivery method
- Effective performance of CPR in adults and infants
- Safe demonstration of AED (using LIFEPAK 20e)
- Providing an accurate verbal handover to paramedics
- Identifying and providing accurate management of Anaphylaxis/allergic reaction
- Procedure of blood related anaphylaxis reaction
- Identifying and providing accurate management of Asthma and hospital setting management
- Providing accurate management of non-life threatening/life threatening of bleeding
- Identification and accurate management of choking
- Identification and accurate management of shock
- Understand signs and symptoms of cardiac conditions and chest pain management protocol
- Understand signs and symptoms of stroke and stroke pathway
- The basic structure and function of the human body
- Recognising psychological impact and stress management
- Reviewing the incident
- Understanding the hospital’s emergency call systems
- Understand the role of emergency situations in hospital settings
- Understand and demonstrate medical handover using ISBAR
Course Prerequisites
This course is flexible in delivery and comprises a pre-course online component followed by an in-person practical training. Around 95% of our students prefer the method above (as opposed to attending an in-person half day session) as it’s more cost effective, and convenient. However, if you prefer attending the half day in-person session please contact us to arrange course dates.
Participants will be required to undertake practical training and assessments. This includes demonstrating CPR on a manikin for a period of two minutes. If you have restrictions of mobility or an injury which will impact your ability to perform CPR please let us know know prior to booking.
Participants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of attendance. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian. Please contact us if you require a consent form.
Duration of the course
The course contains 2-4 hours of online learning and a 2 hour in-person training & assessment.

Qualification Issued
Statement of Attainment in the following units of competency:
- HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
A certificate (PDF) will be issued following completion of the course.
Qualification Validity
Three (3) year from date of issue.
As per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, Health Education Institute recommends that resuscitation skills are renewed every 12 months.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)
