Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting (HLTALD012)
This is a fully accredited first aid training course and relevant for all staff who work in the childcare and education sector, providing the necessary skills as a first aid responder to infants, children and adults. This course includes Apply First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis training for students as required under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulation (2011).

- Providing accurate management of non-life threatening/life threatening bleeding

- First aid management of bites, stings and poisoning
- First aid management of bone and joint injuries
- First aid management of head injuries
- Wound management principle (including minor wound, burns)
- Identifying and providing accurate management of diabetes
- Identifying and providing accurate management of temperature related conditions
- Identifying and providing accurate management of seizure
- First aid management of nose bleeding
- The basic structure and function of the human body
- Identifying and providing accurate management/prevention of dehydration
- Identifying and providing accurate management of fever
- Identifying and providing accurate management of diarrhoea/vomiting
- Identifying and providing accurate management of pain
- Understanding of pain assessment
- Understanding of general signs and symptoms of acute illness in children
- Understanding of age appropriate distraction technique

Course Prerequisites
This course is flexible in delivery and comprises a pre-course online component followed by our 6.5-7 hours in-person practical course. Pre-study takes on average 4-9 hours depending on your previous experience. Around 95% of our students prefer the method above (as opposed to attending an additional day in-person) as it’s more cost effective, and convenient. However, if you prefer attending the additional day please contact us to arrange course dates.
Participants are required to undertake practical training and assessments at floor level. This includes demonstrating CPR on a manikin for a period of two minutes. If you have restrictions of mobility or an injury which will impact your ability to perform CPR please let us know know prior to booking.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of attendance. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian. Please contact us if you require a consent form.

The course contains 4-9 hours of online learning and 6.5-7 hours of in-person training & assessment.

A certificate (PDF) will be issued following completion of the course.
Qualification Validity
Three (3) years from date of issue.
As per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, Health Education Institute recommends that resuscitation skills are renewed every 12 months.
